Private Estate

The project is a combination of the restoration and new design of the gardens and parkland landscape surrounding a large house that we have had the privilege to create in the Cotswolds over 10 years. The breadth of the project is huge and has involved the detailed restoration of a historical landscape; creating from scratch a number of large perennial gardens, water features both formal and relaxed; tree, shrub, woodland and orchard plantings; wildflower meadow creation and the restoration of a lake. The site is also home to a number of rare animal species and so habitat creation for these has played a key part. The client wanted the feel to be exuberant, relaxed, insanely beautiful. This had to be carried out alongside specific attention to the historical importance of the site and using organic principles since the landscape is now registered with Demeter. The design needed to be both respectful of the history of the house and geography and also suitable for contemporary family life. The gardens were designed to have something for every season, with certain borders, glades and meadows coming into their own in their own season, yet each playing a part in the whole ensemble. Bulb meadows were planted around the apple trees in the orchard, then summer meadows take over as spring flowers give way.
