Cork House

Cork House

We are delighted to have been asked to design the landscape for the Cork House. Not only because it was designed and hand built by dear friends of ours but for the epic forward thinking principles of the design and materials used to develop it. The Cork House is projected to have the lowest carbon emissions over its 60 year life span of any building yet developed. It was shortlisted for the RIBA Stirling Prize 2019. Designed and built by Matthew Barnett Howland with Dido Milne and Oliver Wilton from CSK Architect. Its distinctive structural form and rich sensory environments are the results of a whole life approach to architecture, in which environmental sustainability is embedded into every stage of the building’s lifecycle.

With this in mind we completed stage one of the planting with locally sourced and native planting. Being sensitive to natural tones of the cork we created a very naturalistic planting scheme which on a sensory level elevated a feeling of calm, reflection and connection with the natural environment. This being in the middle of Eton, London, it is a testament to naturalistic design.
